There are millions of jobs that make around the total benefits now for unemployed people, with the $400 from the government and state benefits, and a decent number of people will actually make less money to not work.

So not a great move. This will keep the economy stagnant.

The move is fine. The average wage in the United States is $25/hr. The additional benefit amount was intended to bring that average to 100% since unemployment typically pays 40%. Do the math.

Average Wage at $25 x 40 hour work week = $1000

40% unemployment = $400 + $600 additional payement = $1000

A small percentage of them make what they would have made with regular unemployment at a 40% payment (that's complete nonsense).

There are approximately 30 million out of work. Approximately 62% are below that average and 38% are above it (so a good chunk were not making what they were making). In addition, most out of work have lost their benefits (health insurance being one of the bigger expenses). $400 is a reasonable compromise and probably gets that percentage closer to 50/50 now. And it's one that either party could have compromised on.

Without the additional benefit, the economy would almost surely go into a recession. So pick your poison. Inflation later or a recession now. The economy is NOT going to be opening up any time soon (despite all the screaming about it) so you can ignore the situation or do something. He reacted. That's what President's do.

R's wanted to cut it to $200 per week. D's wouldn't budge off the joke of $600 per week.

Cut it down the middle at $400. Don't necessarily like it. But seems like the fairest compromise. Just sad congress is so incompetent and this required executive action.

I'm not sure what type of challenge it could face, but is that even legal?

I tried to research it and seems murky. I think it is a win for Trump politically at a time he needs one.

Apparently he's using the extra funds that are available through the Disaster Relief Fund and states were on the hook for 25%, thereby not having to deal with the House of Representatives.

For any of you out there that haven't figured it out yet.. The United States of America is completely fucked. Broken. No chance at repair.

There will be blood. It's coming soon.

1) He is not legally able to amend the agreements between the federal govt and students who borrowed money
2) The instrument pertaining to "eviction protection" was in fact nothing more than a memorandum instructing various fed agencies to explore and examine ways to possibly help renters in a legal manner....unlikely to produce much of anything tangible before end of his term
3) He cannot legally suspend or delay payroll tax collections without the approval of both Houses of Congress and it's an absurd notion regardless since such a move would effectively defund both Social Security and Medicare

Americans must snap to the harsh reality that only Congress can provide further financial assistance to the U.S. population. The only legal role that Tiny can perform at this point is agreeably signing into law any such financial assistance that passes both Houses of Congress

Average wage is a joke. Average person not working are not anywhere near $25 and hour.

There isn’t a single state in The south that has minimum wage over $10. Hell most are not even $8. These are the jobs people are not working. That $600 alone brought in almost double what a $10 job a week does. With states capping UE some are max $350 and you had to make good money to get to the max. Average Joe is bringing in $275 state. If they worked they would brought in $320 a week. But add that $600 on to $275 and folks are bringing home almost triple.

Take the couple big city states and yeah min wage plus the extra and I’m sure folks are under what they made by a bit. But the vast majority of people are making out like bandits and I don’t blame them for not going back to work. It’s Xmas for the entire south east!

You take these JUST jobs in the south and make them $25 and hour hell even $20 an hour and 75% of people would get off UE real quick.

$25=$52k year in southeast. Teacher, police, fire, state, city, secretary, dental hygienists, restaurant, hotel, landscape, construction, Are all just a start of jobs that don’t pay $50k a year in the southeast.

No way this federal extra isn’t helping the economy in majority of areas. If you disagree then go grab a job at UPS or FedEx, then go visit Home Depot and Walmart and watch Summer Xmas.

$50k in (majority) South is like making $100k in California.

Tiny has absolutely no legal authority to mandate how individual states spend their internal dollars

This is nothing more than a fat, tired demented old man playing President to a room of complimentary country club golfers

Vote him another term if you think it's wise

But don't think for a moment that he is legally able to change *Anything* wrt federal allocations between now and Nov 3

It is an utterly delusional use of imaginary power

Tiny has in fact signed and had legally implemented a stack of Executive Orders during his first 40 or so months in office

That doesn't change the legal fact that nothing he is claiming to do at this point will become a reality

Vote him in for a second term if you think it wise

But know he is utterly powerless for the remaining 22 weeks (effectively) he has left in this term

You obviously don't live on the West Coast. Feel free to do a query on average wage if you don't believe it. The south does not represent the entire country. And indeed 32% of those on unemployment were above that average.

Well apparently the Treasury Secretary and Chief of Staff do know that he has at least 75% of the money. Are you debating that also?

I could not possibly comment with any veracity on what Tiny's shrinking cadre (three, four men?) of trusted cabinet members are doing. I can reasonably postulate that they are just stringing him along as they have for the past six months in hopes of scoring a few more weeks of that awesome grift

But maybe I'm wrong and they honestly believe they are providing him with sound legal counsel

I'll allow you to make your own judgement re their integrity

Likely the best measure for all of us will be to simply watch the next seven to ten days of Tiny's campaign rallies.....errrrrrrr, "press briefings". Based on last six months he will change his story and plans a half dozen different ways

Maybe best we all stay focused on our individual families, businesses and communities. The POTUS of late 2020 will not be anyone's saviour
